Mapping habitats
Perdixnet can provide software designed for use by anyone from primary school upwards in multiple languages (currently 9). In the EU-funded project to design a TESS, it was used in 9 community mapping studies by school-children, scouts, hunters, cyclists, walkers and others, the most ambitious being mapping of some 7 km2 of habitat used by deer at Arne Parish in Dorset. The figure shows 4 hours of mapping that covered 50 ha of grouse habitat in Scotland.
The mapper can be downloaded for use in Microsoft Windows. The habitat files which it creates can be provided for any system which reads the ESRI shapefile format, as text coordinates and in some other specialist formats, such as the Ranges suite. The files can be used to obtain advice on habitats and restoration potential from the Partridge Count Scheme.
